Task B

For task b, the students are asked to select one study area from the previous iterations and develop them in to section and waffles.

Study Area

The way I approached this part is constructability and the architectural quality of each of the waffle type. For radial waffle, the sections protrude and expand from a centralized ring, embodying the structural a concentric quality. In contrast, EX waffle seeks to uniformly section the structure out, rationalizing and mitigating drastic surfaces and manifest their general flow. Hence, I chose iteration 1 for the concentric quality of the structure itself, and I wen for iteration 2 for the converging space is centralized and realized by the intersection of the twisted and contoured geometries, I’m hoping that the waffle structure can somewhat mitigate the angular surfaces with the light penetration and airflow among the hollow sections.

Scale Study

Social pavilion scale was selected to ensure that the number of contour on each axis can be fully and securely utilized by occupants. Compared with the previous fun pavilion that has a variety of spatial experiences, The waffle structure softens the thresholds to provide more comfortable and confident for people to transit through, by providing identical hollow section along the edges that are originally characterized by drastic differences. Their allowance of sun light penetration and airflow blends then boundary of being insider the pavilion and outside, improving the initial ambition of providing spaces that encourages circulation and gathering.

Social pavilion scale was selected to enhance the idea of encouraging daily communal activities around the structure, by using radial contour to increase the concentric nature of the pavilion. With light penetrating between the unequal lengths of the radiating arms, it adds to the degree of relaxation of the space, as a promotion for casual interaction, with people and with archietcture.
